Skin Care Matters

May 30, 2018

I always get stopped and asked "What's my secret to get my foundation to look so smooth"? Or when I'm not wearing any makeup "how do I get my skin to look so clear".  Honestly It's no secret It's all in your skin care routine.  Most women I ask, what's their skin care routine. Most often than not, shrug their shoulders and say they don't have one or they just use soup and water and then throw cocoa butter on their face for moisturizer............

Well my secret is my skin care routine. My skincare regimen consists of using a cleanser every day and night. Cleansers of course help clean your face.  There are many forms of cleansers but they have one job to  remove make-up, dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other types of pollutants that form on the face daily.

Then there is my toner. Toners help bring back ph balance and moisture to the skin. Toners  are also most helpful with oily or acne prone skin.  Also toners minimizes the appearance of pores, giving your skin a smoother look especilly when you're wearing foundation.

Next is my serum's. Now I will admit. I really didn't understand the purpose of using a serum until I really got deep into my passion in beauty.  However serums are just important as using a moisturizer on your face daily.  Face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin. Instead of the serum sitting on top of your face like a moisturizers do. Serums work deep down in all 3 layers of our skin.  Most serums have high concentrated ingredients.  This makes them a great tool to focus on certain skincare concerns in certain areas like wrinkles, sagging skin, dark circles under the eyes.

Last but not least is my moisturizer/eye cream.  Moisturizers are very important to the skin.   The stratum corneum is made up of fat, oil, and skin cells that help keep moisture locked in the skin. Applying a proper moisturizer to your face can increase your moisture level of the statum corneum and helps keep your skin from drying out.  If the moisturizer contains SPF, it also helps protect it agains sun damage. However, if you're using a moisturizer with SPF make sure you are washing your face daily. SPF sitting on our face over a period of time is not good for our skin.

Let's talk about the most sensitive part of our face, which is our eyes. Squinting, constant movement of the eyes, pulling on the eyes to put in/remove your contacts or even rubbing them to remove makeup quickly generates the appearace of lines and wrinkles.  Sometimes the older you get, your skin stops producing collagen also causing puffing of the skin and dark circles. Eye ceams help address some of those issues as well as help tighening under the skin area.

I know your thinking to yourself like "man that's alot", "I don't have time to do all that", listen you don't have to do everything I do but at least get you a good cleanser and moisturizer and start there. Leave the soup and coca butter alone.  Like everything else, it's what you put into your skin that gives the best results. If you have good skin you will have flawless makeup. But if your skin is not taken care of properly it will show under your foundation. Then you will have to put layers on top of layers of your makeup on causing it to look unnatural and caked up. Trust me, that extra time you put into your skin care routine. Will make a world of difference later.
